“To lie in the soft brown earth, with the grasses waving above one's head, and listen to silence. To have no yesterday, and no tomorrow. To forget time, to forgive life, to be at peace.”
Oscar Wilde
Synopsis: Trapped in the swirling thoughts of a late night shift, a restaurant worker receives a cryptic phone call, guiding her to a refuge from the noise.
Beyond its usual, acoustic connotations, noise as a universal concept is applicable to almost any subject. While acoustic noise may be simply described as unwanted sound, a more general notion of noise includes anything which conceals, distracts, or distorts. Between Notes is a film about noise in all its forms - be it visual, acoustic, or conceptual. It is about seeing through that noise, as well as escaping from it.
In today’s social media ridden world, noise is all around. Attention is being bought and sold - it is caught with bright images and attacked with polarising viewpoints. Seeing through the thick layer of entertaining and pseudo-informative nonsense has become a very important task that many find themselves confronted with every day.
Importantly, noise can obscure common ground. We all live on the same planet, and we probably all want more or less the same things, but the way we go about reaching our goals is very different from person to person. Finding peace and quiet is something most of us strive for, especially nowadays. The way we reach this stillness is up to us however - some may find it in religion, others in nature. All methods are valid, and must be regarded as just that - a means to an end, a remedy to an illness. Let us not forget that we ultimately want the same thing.
