Foreword
When I came to Warwick as a fresher, I had no idea about electronic music. I had heard of house music (it always seems to start with house), but nothing could have prepared me for the intensity of my first few Mayhem events. It was a bit much at first, but slowly, the whole thing started to grow on me. Then came lockdown. No one could do anything about it, but everyone knew, the parties would be amazing once the whole thing was over. And they were: the atmosphere of those first few Waterside Inn events was incredible, full of excitement for things to come. And it has been this way since, with new societies popping up, focusing on different genres and moods, attracting new people, and keeping the scene alive and well.
To me, what best symbolises this whole experience are the flyers and posters that helped promote new events, spread the word, and get people on board. It’s a shame they’re so short-lived, only serving a purpose for the days before the event, because ultimately, they are the souvenirs that will remind us of the good old days once all of this is over. That’s why I decided to collect them all in a book, so that they are not forgotten, but appreciated as the art they are.
To promote the booklets, I organised a scavenger hunt, hiding 4 copies in different places around Leamington Spa. Hints were given in the instagram post (right), and all books were found within 5 hours.
In total, more than 60 books were sold at several events as well as online.
You can download a high quality version of the genre wheel here.
The booklet was first available for purchase at the AE Kollektivität event "Retinal Rausch", at which I exhibited as well. See Doruksen - LUST for more information.
The last few books from the second edition are available in my shop.
